The Jamaica Plain Quaker Worship Group has announced three prizewinners in its Teen Peace Essay Contest. The topic was “How can we bring peace to our city?” The contest was open to teenagers ages 13 to 17 who live or attend school in Jamaica Plain or Roxbury.

The first prize of $200 was awarded to Angel Baez-Mejia, 14, of JP, an 8th-grader at the Curley Middle School. Second prize of $50 went to Jaunae Harvey, 14 of Dorchester, a 9th-grader at Madison Park High School. The $25 third prize was awarded to Kanisha Coaston, 16, of JP, a junior at Urban Science Academy.

Bonnie Norton of the Jamaica Plain Quakers group reported that all the essays received showed “an amazing depth of understanding and dedication to community,” making it difficult to choose the winning essays.
