The Gazette offered all of the candidates for the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council the opportunity to submit biographical statements for publication on our Web site.
The election will take place on July 12 at Jamaica Plain Orange line stops, as well Hi-Lo Foods in Jackson Square, J.P. Licks, and in the parking lot next to Star Fish in Egleston Square. Polls will be open between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. and again between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Michael Reiskind is a thirty-five year resident of Jamaica Plain and a
hard-working community activist involved in many aspects of neighborhood life.
He was an original member of the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council at its beginning in 1985, and is presently on its Zoning Committee. He also is chair of its Public Service Committee, where he works for the community trying to improve public safety, public works, and transportation in Jamaica Plain. He is a board member of JP Centre/South Main Streets, the Jamaica Pond Association, the Arborway Committee, and the JP Business & Professional Association, where he attempts to find common ground between residential and business concerns. In addition, Mr. Reiskind has been an active leader in the improvement of police services to the Jamaica Plain neighborhood by working to implement Neighborhood Policing.
