The Jamaica Plain Arts Council will hold its second annual Small Works Show
and Sale at the Milky Way Lounge & Lanes on Tues., May 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. Just in time for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduations and weddings, the show will offer 100 works of original art, all under 5 by 7 inches and priced at just $50. The event will also feature light food, raffle baskets and silent auction items.

“We’ve expanded to include small sculptures and other three dimensional works,” Jamaica Plain Open Studios (JPOS) Coordinator Jean Mineo said. “Since this only happens once a year, people are advised to come early for the best selection and stay for the raffle and auction, and to mingle with the artists. Some artists sold out right away last year.

“Half of our budget is raised from donations, so events like this are critical to our ability to sponsor Open Studios,” she said. “We need everyone’s help, and people can acquire great art in exchange.”

Proceeds from Small Works benefit JPOS. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $10 at the door at 403-405 Centre St. in Hyde Square. More information is available at www.jpopenstudios.com or 943-7819.

JPOS is celebrating its 15th year as the premiere annual arts event. Open Studios showcases the art work of over 220 artists at 75 sites. The event will take place this year Sept. 27 and 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information and to preview artists’ work, visit www.jpopenstudios.com or call 943-7819.

JPOS is supported in part by a grant from the Boston Cultural Council, a local agency which is funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, administered by the Mayor’s Office of Arts, Tourism and Special Events.
