Gun found outside school

A handgun was found hidden under a rock outside English High School on Feb. 5 by police officers working a security detail at a boys’ basketball game, according to a Boston Police Department (BPD) report.

The .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol had no ammo magazine, and its serial numbers had been removed, which is usually done to prevent tracking of an illegal gun. It is unclear whether the gun was loaded. A semi-automatic pistol may hold a single round in its chamber even if it has no ammo magazine.

The officers were patrolling the school grounds when they spotted the black pistol “underneath a rock near a trash barrel close to the stairways leading to the rear of the school,” according to the BPD report.

Officers confiscated and secured the gun at the local E-13 Police Station.
