John Ruch named Gazette editor

Former Gazette reporter and associate editor John Ruch was hired by the Independent News Group (ING) last week to replace Sandra Storey as editor of the Jamaica Plain Gazette and Mission Hill Gazette.

“It is my privilege and pleasure to helm the Gazettes as they continue to serve as the voices of the Jamaica Plain and Mission Hill communities,” Ruch said.

“I thank ING, which has a strong commitment to neighborhood news, for the opportunity. And I thank Gazette founder Sandee Storey for establishing papers that set the gold standard for Boston’s neighborhood journalism.”

“My door is open to any resident with an idea to share or concern to express.”

“I am very pleased to announce that John Ruch will be the editor of the Jamaica Plain Gazette and the Mission Hill Gazette. He lives here. He understands the neighborhood and he is a professional journalist who previously worked here,” said Stephen Quigley, President and Publisher of ING, owner of the Gazette publications.

“I move on to my other activities feeling confident that the papers are in good hands,” Storey said. “I think it’s fantastic that John Ruch will be the editor. He knows the community. He certainly knows journalism. He knows the news.”

Storey, who founded the Gazette in 1991, sold the two newspapers to ING in November, and has been serving as editor on an interim basis since then. Her last day was Feb. 18.

Ruch previously worked as a reporter and associate editor at Gazette Publications between March 2002 and August 2010.
