Housing Success

(Courtesy Photo) Sister Virginia Mulhern (far left) helps cut the ribbon June 11 on a house named in her honor and operated by Pine Street Inn as 28 affordable residences for formerly homeless people. The Mulhern House at 35 Creighton St. is a rehabbed convent on the former Blessed Sacrament Church site, which is being redeveloped by the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation and New Atlantic Development. Mulhern was on the church’s staff for decades before its 2004 closure, and now works with St. Mary of the Angels in Egleston Square. Joining her in the ribbon-cutting were (from left) JPNDC Real Estate Senior Project Manager Maria Mulkeen, JPNDC Executive Director Richard Thal, state Rep. Jeffrey Sánchez and City Councilor Felix Arroyo.
