A new shoe store off Centre Street wants to put a new pep in JP’s step.
Millipede Shoes, at 7 Pond St., is offering “comfort shoes,” like clogs, in owner’s Rio Tutcik’s first small business venture. It was slated to have a “soft opening” by sometime this week.
“Hopefully we can provide comfort shoes to most of JP. [We hope to create] a fun store to stop by, even for outside-of-JP people,” she told the Gazette.
“I think JP needs an awesome shoe store,” Tutcik added.
Tutcik said she is planning an after party for August’s First Thursday art openings along with neighbor New Leaf florist.
Millipede Shoes is taking over the space from Eye Q Optical, which had an outlet store in the space until recently.
Paul Fox, Eye Q’s owner, told the Gazette that when he received an offer to buy out his lease, he took it.
“We did the math, and [running that location] was costing us…It came down to an opportunity to focus on our main location” at 615 Centre St., he said.
Tutcik has lived in JP “for a long time,” she said. “I love the neighborhood.”
