Editorial: A park leader’s legacy

Overseeing a 525-acre, perpetually underfunded, historic park is pretty impressive work.

Uniting the underserved neighborhoods around the park with a broad range of high-impact community programs—that’s really impressive.

Doing it all while being one of the friendliest people in JP—that’s something of a miracle.

Christine Poff, executive director of the Franklin Park Coalition, makes her job look so easy that we can take the benefits of Franklin Park for granted—even though we shouldn’t. The Barr Foundation recently recognized her achievements with its prestigious fellowship. The award includes time off for Poff to reflect on her work, and JP should take the opportunity to do the same.

Congratulations to Poff for a job that would impress park designer Frederick Law Olmsted. And thanks for making JP, Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan far better places.
