U.S. Rep. Mike Capuano, who represents most of Jamaica Plain in Congress, announced last week that he will not run for a U.S. Senate seat in 2012.

Capuano, a Democrat, ran in 2010 for the seat eventually won by Republican Scott Brown.

“There are several good candidates currently in the race and I am fully satisfied that any nominee from this group will represent Massachusetts effectively in the Senate,” Capuano said in a press statement.

He said that he will seek re-election to Congress in 2012.
