PONSIDE—After a month without power, the parking lot between Thomas and Burroughs streets regained illumination on Sept. 30.
The parking lot behind Blanchards Wines and Spirits had been without power since Sept. 2, following a car accident that damaged a control box.
“It’s dangerous. It’s been getting dark earlier and earlier,” said John Matthews, a neighbor, before the power was restored. “I think [a month] is a long time to wait.”
A big part of the delay was due to electrical company NStar’s need to replace an underground cable, which was finally done the last week of September. A few more days were necessary for the city’s Public Works Department and NStar to coordinate a date to service a city-owned control box that controls the parking lot’s lights, said Mike Durand, an NStar spokesperson.
