Catholics prep for new Mass

Local Roman Catholics are preparing for a new English-language version of the Mass that goes into effect on Sun., Nov. 27.

The new translation of the Roman Missal, the instructions for saying the Mass, will change some words and the ritual’s rhythm for the first time in decades. JP’s three parishes will place cue cards in the pews for worshippers, a St. Thomas Aquinas Parish staffer told the Gazette.

One of the changes is at the very beginning, where the priest blesses the congregation. For generations, the worshippers responded, “And also with you.” But now they will say, “And with your spirit.”

Rev. Alonso Macias, the pastor of JP’s parishes, and the Archdiocese of Boston did not respond to Gazette questions.
