Radical bookstore opens

HYDE SQ.—The Lucy Parsons Center, a radical left-wing bookstore and gathering spot, opened Nov. 5 in its new home at 358A Centre St.

The space is smaller than the center’s previous South End location, so it is “focusing more on quality rather than quantity,” said Marie Benkley, a member of the collective that runs the center.

But it is also tailoring itself to the Hyde Square neighborhood with plans for a Spanish-language book section and bilingual translation at center events by request.

The center continues to offer a public computer and community meeting space. It aims to start up its weekly film screenings soon and will likely host other events.
