FOREST HILLS—Three women are charged with a hate crime after allegedly beating a man while shouting homophobic slurs at the Forest Hills T Station on Feb. 19.
The incident began when the victim brushed against one of the women while walking on a T station stairway. The woman began shouting slurs, and all three women then followed and attacked him while continuing to shout obscenities and slurs, according to MBTA Transit Police. The women allegedly hit and kicked the man before fleeing.
The victim, whose identity is not being released, is 43 years old and not a Jamaica Plain resident, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Transit Police detectives later arrested Felicia Stroud, 18, of West Roxbury, and Erika Stroud, 21, and Lydia Sanford, 20, both of Dorchester. All three women are charged with violating the victim’s civil rights under the state’s hate crime laws and with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. If convicted, they face more than 10 years in prison.
The three defendants were arraigned last week in JP’s West Roxbury District Court. They were granted bail and ordered to stay away from the victim and to use Forest Hills Station only for school-related purposes, and to remain in school while the case is active. They are slated to return to court on March 30.
