HYDE SQ.—Whole Foods Market is seeking to add a seating area for in-store dining.
The grocery store at 413 Centre St. recently posted a petition that customers could sign in support of seating, though it is unable to say how many seats it is seeking or what permits are required, spokesperson Heather McCready told the Gazette. The petition appeared to be gone from the store last week.
McCready said the seating request is in response to customer demand since the grocer opened four months ago. But Whole Foods officials reportedly told Boston city councilors a year ago that a 20-seat dining area was part of their original plan, as the Gazette previously reported.
“Whole Foods Market is hoping to respond to the significant customer demand for a seating area in our Jamaica Plain store,” McCready said in an email. “Fulfilling that request has become a goal, as one of our core values as a company is to satisfy and delight our customers.”

I'm happy Whole Foods is going to get seating. The market is already a neighborhood gathering place and this will make it easier for parents to shop with their kids and for shoppers to grab a quick cup of coffee or a bite to eat.
