Casey Arborway project advisory group could change

FOREST HILLS—The design team for the Casey Overpass replacement project, known as the Casey Arborway, may change as the planning moves ahead.

The crowd of over 100 community members responded mostly with support for the plan and community engagement going forward, as the Design Advisory Group (DAG) continues in working with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) for the best design for the neighborhood and the city. A few audience members were still critical of MassDOT’s controversial process and decision to build an at-grade street network instead of a new, smaller bridge.

MassDOT also announced their proposed schedule for the upcoming design process to the community. The advisory group that has been working with the MassDOT design team will continue to do so. The first DAG meeting is planned for April, though it has not yet been announced.

A public site visit is planned for August. More DAG meetings are planned throughout the summer.

MassDOT Director of Planning David Mohler also announced at the meeting that membership of the advisory group will be reviewed, saying that inactive members will be removed or replaced. MassDOT is still considering the option of adding new members, he said.

What methods will be employed to decide the group’s new membership have not yet been announced.

Corrected version: The original version of this article incorrectly stated that the project initially was called the “Casey Parkway” and then changed to “Casey Arborway.”
