Route 39 plan delayed again

Plans to improve the Route 39 bus have been delayed yet again until the fall.

The Route 39 bus changes, which were planned three years ago, were most recently scheduled to begin this spring. But according to MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo, they have been delayed again because MBTA staff needed additional time to ensure nearby property owners are comfortable with the plans. The project is now expected to begin this fall and finish in spring 2013.

The work will eliminate and move many stops, while improving others with sidewalk bump-outs and shelters. It has been delayed three times from its originally announced 2011 start time. The plan has been controversial for low public input and for some stop eliminations, including one across from South Street’s Harvest Co-op Market.
