Main Streets honors best businesses

Boston Main Streets and Mayor Thomas Menino last week honored the “businesses of the year” and “volunteers of the year” from the city’s Main Streets organizations. Main Streets are city-affiliated nonprofits that promote local businesses and historic preservation.

The winners from Jamaica Plain’s three local Main Streets organizations, announced May 17 at the Strand Theatre in Dorchester, are:

Egleston Square: Latino Beauty Salon, business of the year; Hannah Thomas, volunteer of the year.

Hyde/Jackson Square: Crystal Fruit, business of the year; Jason LaGorga, volunteer of the year.

JP Centre/South: Canary Square, business of the year; Caleb Hannon, volunteer of the year.
