(Gazette Photo by John Ruch) A firefighter carries a 10-foot piece of metal downspout down a fire truck ladder after removing it from the front of 754 Centre St. on Jan. 1. Minutes earlier, a 30-foot section of the pipe blew off the building and crashed to the sidewalk, leaving the rest dangling dangerously from the roof edge. Gazette Editor John Ruch witnessed the accident and summoned help from the fire station right next door.
