HYDE SQ.–Two bids have been submitted for the former Blessed Sacrament Church building on Centre Street in Hyde Square, according to a spokesperson for church co-owner the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC).
Developers Jason Hutchinson and Andre White placed one of the bids, as the Gazette previously reported. JPNDC spokesperson Sally Swenson declined to identify the other bidder, saying that is at the bidder’s request.
“We received two offers for the church at the end of last week,” said Swenson. “Our practice is to carry out discussions or negotiations with potential buyers in private. We will meet with both parties to discuss their offers.”
Hutchinson and White submitted a $1.4 million offer with plans to turn the former church into a multi-use business and nonprofit center called “JP Exchange.” They estimated it would take six to 12 months to put together financing.
The massive, historic church is presently co-owned by JPNDC and New Atlantic Development. They have controversial plans to convert the church into high-end condos. But they recently held a series of meetings to solicit alternative use ideas and review their feasibility.
