A request for funds for a proposed renovation of the Jamaica Plain Branch of the Boston Public Library (BPL) has been added to the BPL Capital Budget for the next fiscal year.
That means that BPL will request the $8.5 million for the renovation from the City in its upcoming FY2014 budget. The City Council and Mayor Thomas Menino will discuss the City budget starting next month, before voting on it in June, BPL Chief of Communications Gina Perille told the Gazette.
The proposed renovation of the 12 Sedgwick St. branch would create a new glass-encased 700-square-foot computer room, a patio and a new main entrance, all of which would face South Street. It would also add an elevator and upgrade the entrance and other facilities.
