Letter: Kerry should oppose Keystone pipeline

I urge our new U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to consider the legacy of catastrophic climate change that we are leaving to our children when he decides on the fate of the Keystone XL oil pipeline. In coming months, his State Department will issue the final environmental impact statement on the project. Along with jeopardizing private landowners’ property and water with oil spills, Secretary Kerry needs to calculate the impact that tar sands oil will have on increasing greenhouse gas output. Secretary Kerry needs to send a message the tar sands oil needs to stay in the ground. He needs to show us why it was so important that we have a Democrat in the White House.
