Candidate’s claimed employers say he doesn’t work there

Shaun Ivers, a Jamaica Plain resident who has announced he is running for At-Large city councilor, claimed in an email to the Gazette earlier this month that he is a freelance consultant for the Boston Municipal Research Bureau and the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) in Quincy. But those organizations are saying that is not the case.

“I am writing to tell you that is not accurate,” Elaine Beattie, vice president at Boston Municipal Research Bureau, said in an email to the Gazette. “Mr. Ivers has never worked for or been associated with the Boston Municipal Research Bureau.”

CWLA echoed Beattie’s response.

“Shaun Ivers has never been paid as a employee or a consultant at the Child Welfare League of America,” said Linda Spears, vice president at CWLA.

Spears said it is possible Ivers has participated in any number of the activities held by CWLA.

Ivers responded, “This is the first that I have heard this ‘news.’ Are you sure you spoke with the right people at either organization? Because I have most definitely worked with these organizations.”

The Gazette had asked Ivers what his job is because it is not mentioned in the press release announcing his candidacy. He responded, “Currently, I am a freelance consultant for the Boston Municipal Research Bureau and the Child Welfare League of America in Quincy. Basically, I serve in a part-time capacity assisting in research projects at both.”
