The whimsical Arborway mansion known as the “Castle,” one of Jamaica Plain’s most prominent homes, is up for sale at a discounted price.
The 61 Arborway mansion, which features numerous wings built around a castle-like tower, was known for several years for a massive Christmas light display that was loved by tourists and criticized by neighbors. The display garnered international media attention. Owners Dominic and Isora Luberto halted the displays in 2011.
Now the property is undergoing a short sale, meaning it is being offered for an amount less than the Lubertos owe creditors. Valued at $1.7 million by the City of Boston for tax purposes, the mansion is listed for $1.45 million by JP’s Pondside Realty.
The 1890s mansion has 14 rooms, 11 fireplaces and a swimming pool, according to the listing. Pondside Realty agent Radhy Pena said that interest has been brisk, with an unusual numbers of showings to potential buyers already. The listing can be viewed at pondsiderealty.com.
