Egleston Square Main Street gets interim director

Giovanna Tapia has been chosen to be the interim executive director of Egleston Square Main Street (ESMS), a nonprofit business promotion and historic preservation organization.

Tapia will head the organization while a permanent replacement is found for former Executive Director Betsy Cowan, who announced last month she is taking a job at the City’s Office of Business Development.

Tapia said in an interview with the Gazette she is “very familiar with the area,” as she teaches a computer class in Spanish at the Egleston Square Branch of the Boston Public Library. Tapia, who runs a Spanish immersion program in Jamaica Plain and Brookline, will work part-time at ESMS. Her previous work includes a stint at the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation.

Tapia said she expects to be in the position for two to three months and will assist in the process to find a new executive director.
