Parklet could come to Aurum restaurant

JP’s parklet, located last year at 349 Centre St., could find a temporary home this year at Aurum Restaurant at 377 Centre St.

Due to ongoing utility work on Centre Street that regularly takes over parking lanes, Boston Transportation Department (BTD) will not be able to install the parklet at its original location outside Old Havana restaurant. Instead, BTD, with the assistance of Hyde/Jackson Squares Main Streets (HJSMS), is looking for alternate locations in Hyde Square and in the Centre/South corridor.

“We are looking at a location in front of Aurum Restaurant as an alternative,” HJSMS Executive Director Gerald Robbins told the Gazette last week.

BTD Director of Planning Vineet Gupta did not return a Gazette phone call.

The owners of Old Havana were unaware the parklet was not returning to their location until the Gazette informed them.

“We have not talked about who is responsible [for keeping the parklet partner informed], but I guess we should communicate with them better,” Robbins said.

Robbins told the Gazette that Old Havana has not signed a parklet agreement with the City this year, unlike the previous partner at that site, Tacos El Charro restaurant.
