JP Kids: Curley field set to open

JP CENTER—The community-funded artificial turf field and track for the Curley K-8 School at 493 Centre St. is close to being completed. There will be a ribbon-cutting to open the field Oct. 28.

The community fundraising campaign raised more than $250,000 to replace an unsafe asphalt lot with the field and track that will be used during recess.

“We want to thank everyone who supported us in this effort,” said the Curley Playing Field Campaign Committee in an online statement. “We made a final push for the funds at the start of this New Year. We are humbled by the amount of donations—both large and small—that have come pouring in. This is truly a community effort.”

The fundraising effort kicked off last May with a cleanup event at the school.

The field is the second phase of a 2008 master plan to improve the school grounds. The first phase was completed three years ago and included new green space and an “outdoor classroom” along the north side of the building.
