JP man charged with South End murder

Jamaica Plain resident Johnnie Bonnie was charged last month with first-degree murder and several other offenses for a June 29 South End shooting that killed 17-year-old Evens Archer, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Besides the murder charge, Bonnie also faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm.

Archer was shot in the back of the head after a party at a Castle Court home in the South End and survived three weeks before dying. An investigation by Boston Police detectives and Suffolk prosecutors led to Bonnie, who is alleged to have shot Archer once and fled down Shawmut Avenue where he discarded the murder weapon.

Bonnie is already being held on a gun charge for allegedly firing a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver near the Ashmont T Station.
