The new traffic lights at the intersection of Centre and Burroughs streets should be fully operational in the second week of May, according to Boston Transportation Department spokesperson Tracey Ganiatsos.
BTD installed lights at the intersection late last year after conducting a study at the neighborhood’s request, but have not turned them on. The study showed signals were needed because of the volume of vehicles and pedestrians passing through the intersection.
Ganiatsos said in an email to the Gazette that BTD is finishing the installation of loop detectors, which detect traffic on Burroughs Street. She said once those detectors are installed, the signals will be on flash for two weeks before switching to the normal stop-and-go operation the second week of May.
