ARBORWAY—Long-awaited improvements to a crosswalk on the Arborway should begin at the end of the month, according to the state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
The crosswalk is on the state-operated Arborway near the Arnold Arboretum. That stretch of the Arborway is known for high-speed car crashes. A Jamaica Plain resident complained last fall that the state was taking too long to begin the improvements after holding a meeting on them in May 2014.
The improvements include adding new signage, relocating the fencing on the median, and work on the sidewalks. The Gazette saw a construction crew at the crosswalk last month. DCR said the crew was doing electrical work at the crosswalk.
