A retiring U.S. Postal Service letter carrier was honored by Jamaica Plain residents she served for 26 years at a May 31 party on Hampstead Road.
Lynette Dion retired in January, but the neighbors waited for warmer days so the outdoor celebration could include the many dogs and cats who also knew her from her years on the local route.
“I miss you all,” said Dion at the party, according to a press release. You made coming to work every day a real joy.”
City Councilor Matt O’Malley presented Dion with a citation from the Boston City Council and praised her as a fellow public servant.
Hampstead Road resident Jonathan Slater gave Dion a plaque on behalf of all of the street’s dogs and cats, thanking her for taking good care of them for so many years.
“Lynette is a walking blessing,” said Tricia Brennan, one of the party organizers, in the press release. “It is inspiring to see how many lives—human and animals—she has touched with her friendly spirit.”
