JP Kids: English High football to play at Fenway Park

The English High School football team will help bring high school football back to Fenway Park for the first time since 1935, according to a press release.

English will play Boston Latin on Thanksgiving Day, one of two games being played at Fenway Park on that day. The game will mark the 129th year the two teams have met, with Boston Latin leading with a 78-36-23 record. The other game will feature Wellesley High School against Needham.

Meanwhile on Thanksgiving Day eve, St. John’s Prep will battle against Xaverian and Boston College High School will play Catholic Memorial.

“High School football takes center stage on Thanksgiving in one of New England’s longest-standing sporting traditions,” said Sam Kennedy, president of Fenway Sports Management President, the company that announced high school football return to Fenway. “This is going to be an unforgettable experience for all the young athletes, parents, alumni and fans of these high school football teams.”

According to the press release, high school football was once common at Fenway Park in the early 20th century, with the ballpark hosting the 1912 high school national football championship between Everett High School and Oak Park, Ill.
