A new restaurant specializing in pizza and that will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner has opened at 154 Green St. across from the Green Street T Station. The Gazette met on April 1 with chef Brad Brown, the owner of La Rana Rossa, and spoke with him about the new establishment.

Brown also owns Blue Frog Bakery on the other side of Green Street near Centre Street. He said that Blue Frog used to have successful pop-up pizza nights, which led to the opening of La Rana Rossa, a cafe by day, pizzeria by night.

Since opening, “business has been great,” Brown said. Sitting in the freshly painted restaurant, he told the Gazette that the restaurant is aiming to be a family-friendly place, as he waved to a toddler in a stroller, waiting in line.

“We have been busy since day one, and it keeps getting busier,” he said.

Brown said he hopes to pick up a beer and wine license for the restaurant.

“We have no desire to sell shots [of alcohol]. I want people to be able to come in here, sit on the patio, have a beer or two with their pizza and enjoy their evening,” he said.

Brown said once La Rana Rossa becomes full service with a beer and wine license, the menu will expand a bit. The current menu offers salads and several types of pizzas, and will expand to offer a cheese plate and a charcuterie plate.

La Rana Rossa currently offers delivery service for their pizzas through Right Coast Couriers, a JP-based bicycle courier service.
