Jackson Square erupts in violence

A 16-year-old male teenager was shot and killed on Parker Street on Oct. 31, while the next day the corner of Lamartine and Centre streets erupted with a series of gunshots.

According to bpdnews.com, Boston Police Department (BPD) officers responded to the area of 944 Parker St. for a report of shots fired around 11:47 p.m. on Oct. 31. Officers found a male victim who had been shot. He was transported to a hospital where he later died. Media reports have identified the victim as Gerrod Brown.

The next day, this reporter was at a City event with the mayor, local officials, and residents at the corner of Ritchie Street and Columbus Avenue around 3 p.m. in the afternoon when he heard a series of popping sounds. He later walked on a road bustling with people and upon a crime scene at the corner of Lamartine and Centre streets. There were bullet casings on the ground and BPD officers unrolling crime scene tape. About 50 feet up the street, a vehicle window had been shot.

BPD media relations office said that no injuries were reported and that there have been no arrests.
