Boston gang member pleads guilty to distributing crack cocaine at Mildred Hailey Apartments

In a federal court, Jarrod “Rizz” Simmons, 21, pleaded guilty to distributing crack cocaine at Mildred C. Hailey Apartments, according to a press release.

Simmons will face sentencing on July 31, 2018.

According to the press release, following a two-year investigation, Simmons and eight co-defendants were charged in January of 2018 in connection with illegal drug distribution and firearm possession. According to the press release, Simmons, a member of the Heath Street Gang, sold cocaine base to a cooperating witness inside the development on Sept. 18, 2016. Simmons is the first of the defendants to plead guilty in this case.

The charge of distribution of controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a public housing development provides for a mandatory minimum sentence of one year and no greater than 40 years in prison, a minimum of six years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of $2 million.
