Residents organize fundraising run to raise money for immigrant advocates

A fundraising run to benefit Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA) at Jamaica Pond is expected to draw hundreds on June 24, according to a press release.

The run is being organized by Boston for All, a local coalition that raises money for organizations working to preserve rights. The group started shortly after the 2016 Presidential election, and has organized various types of events to raise money, such as concerts, runs, and restaurant weeks. The group has raised more than $14,000 for the ACLU in 2017 and more than $6,000 for the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition so far in 2018.

“Run For All is completely free and open to anyone who wants to join, including kids,” said organizer Jeremy Fischer, according to the press release. “We don’t ask our participants to do anything but come, be a part of the community and give whatever they’d like.”

The funds raised at Run for All 2 will go directly to MIRA. Participants can walk or run the 1.5 mile route, which begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday June 24 at the Jamaica Pond Boathouse. Free refreshments are included at the event, and there will be addresses made by City Councilor Matt O’Malley and a representative from MIRA before the run starts.

“The whole idea of this event is that we can all come together for something fun and meaningful,” Fischer said.
