125 Amory development unanimously approved by Zoning Committee

The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council’s Zoning Committee approved unanimously portions of the 125 Amory St. project at a July 25 meeting.

The portions of the project voted on were the renovation and expansion of 125 Amory St. and the construction of Building A and Building B at the site.

The 125 Amory St. redevelopment project is proposed by Amory Street Partners, LLC, which is a partnership between The Community Builders, Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation, and Urban Edge. All three organizations are nonprofits that have been constructing affordable housing. Amory Street Partners’ proposal was selected by the Boston Housing Authority (BHA) to redeveloped the site located at 125 Amory St., which is a public housing development for seniors and people with disabilities.

Next steps for the project involve a ZBA hearing on Aug. 28. After that, renovation of existing apartments at 125 Amory will start in fall 2018, and construction will start in summer 2019 for 101 Amory St. 127 Amory St. construction will start in spring 2019.

“HUD has officially approved the piece of the project that is JPNDC’s — renovation of the current building — and we anticipate beginning construction this winter,” said Sally Swenson, Fundraising & Communications Director of Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC).

The Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) board during its Feb. 8 meeting approved the 125 Amory St. and the City announced that a portion of the project will receive affordable-housing funds.
