Taxes
Reduce your Property Taxes If you are elderly, a veteran, blind, widowed or own your residence and meet specific criteria, you may be paying too much in property taxes. Info: City of Boston, 635-4287.
Circuit Breaker Tax Credit, available to seniors who pay more than 10 percent of their income for property taxes and water and sewer charges. Mass. Dept. of Revenue, 800-392-6089.
Transportation
The Senior Shuttle: Free curb-to-curb transportation in Boston neighborhoods for seniors 60 years old and up. Sponsored by City of Boston Commission on Affairs of the Elderly. CAE, Greg Rooney, 635-3000.
Taxi Coupon Discount Program: Homebound handicapped or disabled seniors aged 65+ may buy $10 of coupons for $5. All licensed taxis accept coupons. Info: CAE, 635-4366.
MBTA-Senior Citizens Pass, which allows for reduced fares, can be purchased at Back Bay and Orange Line stations and costs 50¢.
Health/Fitness
The Pharmacy Program offers help paying for prescription drugs for eligible seniors and people with disabilities. Info: 1-800-243-4636.
Mayor’s Neighborhood Pharmacy Program, discounts on prescriptions and free transportation to local pharmacies. Info: 635-3993.
