JP CENTER—Plans by the proprietors of the tiny but popular Blue Frog Bakery at 3 Green St. to expand into a larger storefront at 654 Centre St. are off the table.

Blue Frog had hoped to move from its current 450-square-foot space into the 1,200-square-foot storefront, and possibly turn the 1,200-square-foot basement space into a production area.

But, Blue Frog proprietor Bradley Brown told the Gazette, negotiations with the landlord at 654 Centre St. fell through.

“We just couldn’t come to an agreement,” he said.

Kokoras Insurance Agency occupied the space until June 1. Landlord Mike Pavone, the owner of Classic Cleaners who also owns the space Blue Frog currently occupies, told the Gazette he does not have immediate plans for the space. But, he said, “I don't want a place that does prepared food. We don’t need another restaurant. I want to put in something good for the street.”

Brown had been in the midst of securing community support for his expansion plans. He had already gone before the Jamaica Pond Association and secured their agreement not to oppose the expansion. He planned to go before the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council Public Service Committee this month seeking approval for a new takeout food service license.

Now, he said, his plans are to “sit back and enjoy the summer, maybe leave for a week.”
