Local man charged in boy’s shooting

EGLESTON SQ.—An 18-year-old resident of the Academy Homes housing development has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a boy about five times in the back.

The victim, 15-year-old Roxbury resident Sadiq Williamson, was wounded in a broad-daylight street shooting on Oct. 22 at 43 W. Walnut Park, a Boston Police source told the Gazette. His injuries were described by police as “non-life-threatening.”

The suspect, Travonnie Burris of 18 Academy Court, was arrested Nov. 6 on a warrant by the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike Force.

Several young Academy Homes residents have been victims or suspects in gun violence this year.

Two assaults with guns were reported in the same part of Egleston Square this month, but it is unclear whether they involved actual shootings. They include a Nov. 3 incident on W. Walnut Park and a Nov. 4 incident on Walnut Park.

At least 16 people have been shot on Jamaica Plain area streets this year, including four homicides with firearms. Most of the victims have been youths, with a 4-year-old as the youngest victim.
