Pizza place heads to South St.

A new pizza restaurant is looking to occupy the former Clayroom of Jamaica Plain pottery shop storefront at 172 South St.

Prime Brother Pizza will go before the city Licensing Board on Dec. 3 for a seven-day restaurant/take-out license. The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council’s Public Service Committee (PSC) also will review the license request on Dec. 2. [See JP Agenda.] PSC chair Michael Reiskind did not return a Gazette phone call.

Carlos Icaza, head of the Jamaica Plain Business and Professional Association (BAPA), said he was only aware of the general idea for a pizza place there. The business was scheduled to be discussed at BAPA’s meeting this week after the Gazette’s deadline.

Prime Brother’s manager is listed as Shukri Ighrayeb. The Gazette was unable to locate any contact information for Ighrayeb.

A vegan pizzeria called Felicia Scallywaggle’s announced plans earlier this year to open at 142 South St., very close to Prime Brother’s intended spot.

Scallywaggle’s founder Steve Carian told the Gazette that he is still interested in the spot, but is still in talks with the landlord and has slowed his plans because of the bad economy. He said he was unaware of Prime Brother’s plan to come to South Street.
