A brief outage on the Arborway early in the morning of Feb. 22 surprised one resident, who noted that electrical system upgrade work in the area has reduced outages to almost nothing.
NSTAR spokesperson Mike Durand said the 15- to 20-minute outage was a “switching operation.” The local system had a failure during a recent storm, but it did not result in an outage because the system automatically switched to a back-up circuit. However, once the damaged equipment was repaired, a brief outage was necessary to switch the power back to it.
