Power Outage Report

Residents on Forest Hills and Cornwall streets reported a Nov. 8 outage. They were among 300 customers who lost power when a contractor—not one working for NSTAR—damaged an underground cable on Montebello Road, according to NSTAR spokesperson Mike Durand. All residents had power back within two hours after NSTAR brought a generator to the scene.

The same area was hit with outages on Nov. 27. Durand could not pin down their cause for sure by the Gazette’s deadline, but said they were likely required for NSTAR to permanently repair the damage done on Nov. 8.

At least one resident got basic information about the outage from NSTAR’s phone line, which includes an automated call-back service.

There have been no significant power outages for months in Jamaica Plain. NSTAR undertook a major upgrade of the local power grid in recent years.

You can report power outages to the Gazette at [email protected] or 524-2626 ext. 222. Always report them directly to NSTAR at 1-800-592-2000. The NSTAR line will also tell you the cause of an outage when it becomes known.
