JACKSON SQ.—An 18-year-old man was charged with murder last week in the May 17 shooting death of a fellow Academy Homes I housing development resident. Prosecutors say the killing was the end result of an argument that turned violent.

Darius Washington of 66 Academy Court also faces a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm. He pleaded innocent at his June 2 arraignment in Roxbury District Court and is being held without bail.

Washington is charged with shooting Sheikh Kakay, 22, twice at 12 Weaver Court.

Prosecutors allege that Washington and Kakay knew each other and “engaged in a conversation that turned to trash talking,” according to a press statement from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Washington allegedly left, obtained a gun and came back to shoot Kakay—once while he stood outside, and again after he fell to the ground, according to the DA’s Office.
