Police add bike patrols

More local police officers will be patrolling on bicycles this summer thanks to a Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC) grant.

Community Service Officers from Jamaica Plain’s E-13 Police Station are now using five new bikes. They opted for Fuji’s specially built police mountain bikes, according to Jeffrey Ferris, owner of the local Ferris Wheels Bike Shop, who sold the police their wheels.

The bike purchases were part of a $75,000 Community Safety Initiative grant administered by the JPNDC, according to Executive Director Richard Thal.

JPNDC and E-13 are also teaming up to hold a National Night Out anti-crime festival on July 19 at JPNDC’s Brewery complex on Amory Street.
