Thanks for supporting Relay for Life

On behalf of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Boston, I would like to thank local residents for their generosity and support. This year, 26 teams participated in the event held at The English High School track, raising more than $22,000 for the American Cancer Society’s programs of research, education, advocacy and patient services. This outstanding support proves that the people of Boston, Jamaica Plain and surrounding communities are truly committed to the fight against cancer.

I want to applaud the 24 cancer survivors who participated in the opening lap and survivor reception. They are the reason we continue the fight. Each year there can be more and more people living wonderful lives following a diagnosis of cancer.

A special thanks to the many Relay For Life volunteers who worked to make this event a success. The Relay For Life committee did an outstanding job of putting the event together. Committee members include: Doris Carty, Sharon Chisom, Nanyamka Hales, Vina Harvey, Andrea Howley, Daniel Lachar, Maria Ortega, Roberta Ramos, Sandra Sokolowski, Dana Weissman, and Evelyn Williams-Robinson.

We also appreciate the generosity of this year’s corporate sponsors. Relay For Life would not be possible without them. Our corporate sponsors include: The Waldwin Group, Dunkin’ Donuts, The Real Deal of Jamaica Plain, Blue Front Telecom and Energy, Arborway Coalition, Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority and Microsoft Corporation. We would also like to give a very special thank-you to all the generous sponsors who donated a variety of items and food to the event.

Again, thank you for supporting the American Cancer Society, and remember, it’s not too late to turn in any last-minute funds raised or too early to become involved in Relay For Life for next year.
