Moratorium on antenna installation wanted

The following letter was sent to Dennis Royer, Chief of Public Works and Transportation, City of Boston Public Works Department:

I write to you from the business community of Jamaica Plain. The Jamaica Plain Business and Professional Association (JPBAPA) is one of many organizations dedicated to the improvement of the Centre Street and South Street business districts. We are disturbed at the absence of community process and lack of a local design review regarding the installation of the combination communication and light poles by NextG Networks.

We ask for an immediate moratorium on installation and request a schedule of meetings where we can gather information and present our concerns. I am certain we can negotiate an arrangement that will satisfy all involved.

What we find most perplexing is the superb job your department did with the recent and ongoing sidewalk and road improvements on Centre and South streets. Frank O’Brien and Kevin Linskey attended several community meetings, put announcements in the local newspaper and presented an informed and open dialog about a logistically difficult situation.

Frank and Kevin proved it can be done correctly. Let’s do it right with the NextG poles.
