Special thanks for Open Studios help

Thank you to everyone who helped make the 15th annual JP Open Studios such a wonderful weekend of Sept. 27 and 28. Even though it rained all weekend, we remain inspired by our sponsors, the artists and by those who attended with umbrellas in hand to visit 220 artists at 65 sites.

Open Studios is made possible by a generous outpouring of local support. For example, more than 80 businesses made financial or product donations. Under the guidance of Hannah Johnson, 21 volunteers ran the information booths during the event and directed visitors around JP. More than two dozen other volunteers helped throughout the year on special projects, fund-raising events and marketing.

In addition, the Arnold Arboretum, Central Congregational Church, Eliot School, Farnsworth House, First Church in Jamaica Plain Unitarian Universalist, JP Neighborhood Development Corporation, Loring-Greenough House and Red Sun Press provided space for 130 artists to display their work. I wish I could thank everyone individually.

Finally, several people volunteered over 800 combined hours to plan and implement Open Studios. My sincerest thanks to Gail Bos, Anne Brown, Joy Cochran, Thomas Durand, Matt McKee, Robin Radin and Bill Shamlian.

I imagine that the seeds of community spirit you all helped to plant, will grow and blossom throughout the coming year. They are now well watered!
