Second suspect charged in Webb killing

JACKSON SQ.—A second suspect was charged with murder last month in the Sept. 15 shooting death of 17-year-old Thomas Webb in the Bromley-Heath housing development.

Meanwhile, Jermeil Amir Robinson, the teenager charged with shooting three children in the Academy Homes I housing development on Oct. 18, pleaded innocent. The children’s injuries were reportedly minor.

Michael Gaines, 21, of 10 Ellis St. in Roxbury was charged with murder and unlawful gun possession on Oct. 24 in connection with Webb’s killing. He pleaded innocent and was held without bail.

Webb was fatally shot four times in the head and stomach outside 923 Parker St., according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Elbert Newsom, 19, of Dorchester was previously arrested on murder and other charges in the case.

Police officers chased two suspects who reportedly fled the scene of Webb’s killing in a car. On Academy Road, the suspects reportedly leaped from the moving car and fled while the car crashed into a tree. A .45-caliber handgun reportedly thrown from the car matches bullets found in Webb’s body, according to prosecutors. A .38-caliber handgun found in the car matches other ballistic evidence at the scene, prosecutors say.
