EGELESTON—The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC) was the successful respondent to a Boston HealthCare For the Homeless Program (BHCHP) request for proposals to redevelop the former Barbara McInnis House homeless respite care facility at 461 Walnut Ave.

BHCHP plans to turn the three-story building into single room occupancy (SRO) housing for the formerly homeless on the top two floors and a new short-term health care facility for the homeless on the ground floor, JPNDC spokesperson Sally Swenson told the Gazette.

The JPNDC will be responsible for the SRO construction, she said. The JPNDC and BHCHP plan to host a community meeting to discuss the proposed redevelopment of the site June 24. [See JP Agenda.]

The McInnis House—named after a famed JP nurse—moved to the South End in 2008.
