HYDE SQ.—A Dorchester man was wounded in a daylight street shooting in front of a popular local market at Centre and Wyman streets on July 25, according to the Boston Police Department (BPD).

An early report cited by the Boston Globe that a local teenager also was wounded in the burst of gunfire turned out to be incorrect, according to BPD.

The 25-year-old victim, whose name is being withheld by BPD, was shot at least once in the stomach at around 2:30 p.m. in front of Pimentel Market at 340 Centre St. The victim was hospitalized.

Witnesses reported that the shooting suspects fled the scene in a car that was soon found parked and empty at the corner of Chestnut Avenue and Sheridan Street. That car is registered to an owner in Holyoke, according to a BPD report obtained by the Gazette.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact BPD at 343-4275 or anonymously by calling 1-800-494-8477 or by texting the word “TIP” to 27463.
